Goalkeeper, Mexico (born 1966, retired 2004) · Forward, France (born 1931, retired 1967)
There is something timeless about weighing Jorge Campos against Raymond Kopa. Era matters in any comparison, and these two peaked under very different footballing conditions. Across his senior career Jorge Campos notched 40 goals in 686 appearances (0.06 per game), while Raymond Kopa recorded 150 in 450 (0.33 per game). Because assists were not systematically tracked for much of their time, that side of the comparison rests on the footage that survives. Jorge Campos departs the game with 8 major pieces of silverware, including 1× Mexican Primera División; Raymond Kopa with 5, including 3× European Cup (1957, 1958, 1959). Across the 1990s and the post-war golden age respectively, their imposing and predatory styles captured the spirit of very different footballing times. Their routes to the top were distinct: Jorge Campos built his reputation across Pumas UNAM, Atlante, Cruz Azul, peaking around 1991, while Raymond Kopa reached his defining level around 1958 after spells with Angers, Reims, Real Madrid, Reims. Picking between them says as much about the picker as the players.

Player profiles
Jorge Campos Navarrete (born 15 October 1966) is a Mexican professional football coach and player who plays as a goalkeeper for Tercera Federación – Group 7 club México FC. A notable player of Mexico in the 1990s and early 2000s, Campos was an eccentric player, known for his constant play outside the penalty area – often functioning as a sweeper-keeper, as well as his acrobatic, risky, and flamboyant style of goalkeeping, and his colourful playing attire. His main strengths as a goalkeeper were his leaping ability, athleticism, and speed when rushing off his line, as well as his ability to organize his defense, which enabled him to overcome his short stature.
“A fearless, undersized goalkeeper who compensated with spring, bravery and unusual footwork.”
France's first football superstar and 1958 Ballon d'Or winner, Kopa won three straight European Cups alongside Di Stéfano at Real Madrid before returning to lead Reims.
“A diminutive, dazzling dribbler and creator whose vision and close control made him the conductor of every attack he played in.”
